Why Choose Medical-Grade Sheepskin?

Why Choose Medical Merino Sheepskin?

β€’ Pressure Relief & Support
Naturally distributes body weight to reduce pressure points - helping to prevent bed sores (pressure ulcers), support improved circulation, and enhance overall comfort.

β€’ Clinically Trusted for Pressure Care
Widely used in medical and frail care environments to support skin integrity, reduce friction, and protect vulnerable areas.

β€’ Pain Relief & Soothing Comfort
Provides gentle cushioning that may help relieve discomfort associated with conditions such as arthritis, while the soft texture promotes a calming, soothing effect.

β€’ Temperature Regulating
Naturally insulating, helping maintain a consistent body temperature - warm in winter and breathable in warmer conditions.

Absorbs moisture while remaining dry to the touch, helping keep skin comfortable. Wool fibres also absorb odour molecules, reducing unwanted smells.

β€’ Soft, Hypoallergenic & Skin Protective
Gentle, non-irritating, and naturally hypoallergenic, making it ideal for sensitive or fragile skin. The presence of lanolin helps protect against friction and irritation.

β€’ Naturally Enriched with Lanolin
Contains lanolin, a natural wool wax known for its moisturising, skin-nourishing, and protective properties - especially beneficial for dry or compromised skin.

β€’ Chrome-Free & Skin Safe
Tanned without harmful chrome chemicals, making it safer for prolonged, direct skin contact - particularly important for medical use and sensitive conditions.

β€’ Improves Sleep & Overall Wellbeing
Enhanced comfort and reduced pressure contribute to more restful, uninterrupted sleep and improved daily wellbeing.

β€’ Durable, Easy to Care For & Long-Lasting
Designed for everyday use, with a structure that maintains its support over time. Can be gently machine washed for practical care.

β€’ Versatile for Medical & Home Use
Suitable for a wide range of applications including bedding, seating, and mobility support - see Product Use section for more.

Processed using a specialised tanning method that minimises disease transmission and meets stringent European Union REACH compliance and environmental standards, ensuring a safe, high-quality product that retains its natural benefits.

Benefits for Diabetes Care

For individuals living with diabetes, maintaining skin integrity and preventing complications is essential. Medical-grade merino sheepskin offers a natural, supportive solution for diabetic care.

β€’ Helps reduce risk of diabetic foot ulcers
By evenly distributing pressure, it helps minimise stress on vulnerable areas - supporting the prevention of diabetic foot ulcers and pressure sores.

β€’ Supports healthy circulation
Reduces pressure points that can restrict blood flow, beneficial for those experiencing poor circulation associated with diabetes.

β€’ Minimises friction and skin irritation
The soft, dense fibres reduce rubbing and shear, helping prevent blisters, irritation, and skin breakdown.

β€’ Temperature regulation for sensitive skin
Maintains a balanced skin environment, avoiding overheating and excess moisture that can aggravate diabetic skin conditions.

β€’ Moisture-wicking & breathable
Helps keep skin dry, reducing the risk of infection and promoting overall skin health.

β€’ Gentle on sensitive or neuropathic skin
Ideal for individuals with diabetic neuropathy, where reduced sensation increases the risk of unnoticed injury.

β€’ Lanolin for skin nourishment
The naturally occurring lanolin helps moisturise dry, fragile skin - supporting skin elasticity and offering an added layer of protection.

EU REACH Compliant & Chrome-Free

Ethically Sourced & Expertly Tanned in South Africa

Our medical-grade sheepskins are proudly sourced and tanned in South Africa, using a specialised process that prioritises both skin safety and environmental responsibility.

β€’ Chrome-Free Tanning Process
Free from chrome and harsh heavy metals, reducing the risk of skin irritation and making it safer for prolonged contact - especially important for sensitive, fragile, or compromised skin.

β€’ Safer for Long-Term Skin Contact
Ideal for pressure care, diabetic skin, and extended daily use where the sheepskin remains in close contact with the body.

β€’ Minimised Risk of Disease Transmission
The specialised tanning and treatment process ensures the sheepskin is hygienically prepared for safe, medical-grade use.

β€’ EU REACH Compliant
Meets stringent European Union REACH compliance and testing standards, ensuring the sheepskin is free from harmful substances and safe for human use.

β€’ Environmentally Responsible Processing
Treated in accordance with strict environmental standards, reducing chemical impact while preserving the integrity of the natural fibres.

β€’ Preserves Natural Benefits
Carefully processed to retain the wool’s inherent properties - including breathability, softness, durability, and natural lanolin content - ensuring every sheepskin delivers its full therapeutic value.

Yellow Colour Significance

The Significance of the Natural Yellow Colour

One of the most distinctive features of authentic medical sheepskin is its soft golden-yellow colour - and this is far more than an aesthetic detail.

β€’ A Marker of Chrome-Free Tanning
Unlike bright white or bleached sheepskins, the natural yellow tone indicates that the sheepskin has not been treated with bleaching agents or chrome chemicals.

β€’ Result of a Gentle, Medical Tanning Process
The golden colour develops naturally through specialised lanolin-preserving tanning methods, which are specifically designed for medical use and sensitive skin.

β€’ No Dyes, No Artificial Colouring
The colour is completely natural - not dyed - and reflects a non-toxic, skin-safe processing method.

β€’ Indicates Retained Natural Benefits
Because the sheepskin is not aggressively bleached or chemically stripped, it retains key properties such as lanolin content, breathability, and skin-friendly softness.

β€’ A Trusted Sign of Authentic Medical Quality
The distinctive yellow shade is widely recognised as a reliable indicator of high-quality, chrome-free medical sheepskin.

Size & Weight

The measurements below are provided as a general guide, as each sheepskin naturally varies slightly in shape and size.

Approximate dimensions:

  • Length: 105 cm
  • Shoulder width: 75 cm
  • Hind width: 90 cm
  • Approximate weight: 1 kg
  • Approximate wool length: 2 cm

As a natural product, every sheepskin is beautifully unique. Variations in shape, subtle markings, or small nicks may occur as part of the skinning process - these are not flaws, but part of the character of genuine sheepskin.

Please note that the shape of your sheepskin may differ slightly from the images shown.

Care Suggestions

Medical-grade merino sheepskin is specially treated for durability, hygiene, and more frequent washing. With the right care, it will maintain its natural softness, breathability, and performance over time.

Cleaning options:

  • Suitable for gentle machine washing, hand washing, or spot cleaning
  • Use a mild liquid detergent or wool-specific wash (free from enzymes and bleach)
  • Wash in lukewarm water (maximum 40Β°C)
  • Use a gentle or wool cycle when machine washing
  • Avoid harsh spin cycles, wringing, or twisting
  • Do not use fabric softeners or conditioners
  • Air dry naturally, away from direct sunlight or heat sources

Step-by-step care:

  1. Shake or light clean: Gently shake out your sheepskin to remove loose dirt or dust. Occasional light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment is optional.
  2. Machine or hand wash: Wash on a wool or gentle cycle using a wool-safe liquid detergent. For hand washing, gently agitate in lukewarm water. Avoid excessive handling.
  3. Rinse thoroughly: Ensure all detergent is rinsed out using clean, lukewarm water.
  4. Remove excess moisture: Gently press out excess water or use a light spin cycle if needed. Do not wring or twist.
  5. Air dry completely: Lay flat in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or artificial heat. Allow to dry fully before use to maintain hygiene.
  6. Brush to restore softness (if needed): Once dry, lightly brush with a soft-bristle brush to maintain the wool’s texture.

Important care notes:

  • Designed for regular washing without compromising performance
  • Do not tumble dry, iron, or bleach
  • Do not apply leather or sheepskin conditioners, as these may affect the product’s medical properties
