Care Suggestions

Cleaning medical sheepskin requires a gentle touch to preserve its natural softness and quality.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean sheepskin:

CLEANING SUGGESTIONS

1. Hand wash, machine wash or dry clean
2. Use a mild detergent or wool wash (specifically designed for delicate fabrics)
3. Use lukewarm water. Medical sheepskin can withstand water up to 40 degrees.
4. Avoid spinning cycles
5. Soft sponge or cloth
6. Towels
7. Soft brush (like a soft-bristle brush or a pet brush)
8. Leather or sheepskin conditioner (optional)
9. Vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment (for larger sheepskin items)

CLEANING STEPS

Shake or Vacuum:
Begin by shaking your sheepskin out or vacuuming it using a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment. This will help remove loose dirt, dust, and debris.

Spot Cleaning:
For small stains or spots, mix a small amount of mild detergent or wool wash with lukewarm water to create a soapy solution. Dampen a soft sponge or cloth in this solution and gently blot the affected area. Avoid scrubbing vigorously.

Rinse:
Rinse the sponge or cloth thoroughly and use it to blot the area with clean, lukewarm water to remove any soap residue. Again, be gentle to avoid damaging the sheepskin.

Blot Excess Moisture:
After rinsing, gently blot the cleaned area with a clean, dry towel to remove excess moisture. Avoid wringing or twisting the sheepskin.

Air or Tumble Dry:
Lay the sheepskin flat in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Allow it to air dry naturally. Or, medical sheepskin can be tumble dried on a cool cycle.

Brush Gently:
Once the sheepskin is completely dry, use a soft brush (like a soft-bristle brush or a pet brush) to fluff up the wool and restore its softness. Brush in the direction of the natural fibres.

Optional Conditioning:
If you want to maintain the suppleness of the leather backing (if applicable), you can apply a leather or sheepskin conditioner according to the manufacturer's instructions. This step is optional and not necessary for the wool itself.

It is normal for the wool fibres to curl and the pelt to feel slightly firmer after a wash.
