Caring For Your Sheepskin Products

Knowing which sheepskin products can be washed, not washed, brushed or spot cleaned can be a head-scratch! But not to worry, we'll tell you exactly how and which products to use for your favourite pair of slippers and sheepskins.

Margie's Comfies soft leather range

  • Machine (on a gentle setting) and hand washable.
  • Use cool/tepid water, any hotter and the product could get damaged.
  • Use wool/gentle liquid detergent. Granule detergent is not advisable as the granules do not always dissolve properly and can leave residue in the wool.
  • Squeeze water out gently and reshape the slipper.
  • Air dry in the shade (not in direct sun).
  • Refresh the look of the leather by giving it a gentle brush with soft bristle brush.
  • Avoid brushing the stitching.

In addition, the Margie's Comfies range would benefit from the
Spotless Slipper Cleaning Kit and Spotless Dirt Resistor spray.

How to care for your sheepskin

Cleaning sheepskin requires a gentle touch to preserve it's natural softness and quality.

Shake or Vacuum:
If the sheepskin is a rug or larger item, begin by shaking it out or vacuuming it using a soft brush attachment. This will help remove loose dirt, dust, and debris.

Spot Cleaning:
For small stains or spots, mix a small amount of liquid wool/mild detergent with lukewarm water to create a soapy solution. Dampen a soft sponge or cloth in this solution and gently blot the affected area. Avoid scrubbing vigorously. Liquid detergent is better than a granule detergent as granules can leave residue in the wool.

Rinse:
Rinse the sponge or cloth thoroughly and use it to gently blot the area with clean, lukewarm water to remove any soap residue.

Blot Excess Moisture:
After rinsing, gently blot the cleaned area with a clean, dry towel to remove excess moisture. Avoid wringing or twisting the sheepskin.

Allow to Air Dry:
Lay the sheepskin flat in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Allow it to air dry naturally. This may take some time, so be patient.

Brush Gently:
Once completely dry, use a soft-bristle brush to fluff up the wool and restore its softness. Brush in the direction of the natural fibres.

Optional Conditioning:
If you want to maintain the suppleness of the leather backing, you can apply a leather or sheepskin conditioner according to the manufacturer's instructions. This step is optional and not necessary for the wool itself.
